An assortment of useful links

Last week I gave another training for ASP.NET development. We had a blast and exchanged a lot of useful links.

  • Check all of your DSL settings at DSL Reports. Go to Test & Tools and try the Tweak Test link at the right hand bottom to test your connection speeds and find out how to improve these. Requires the Java runtime.
  • Use your Visual SourceSafe database over the Internet with this Visual SourceSafe clone. You will run a Web Service on the server to link into the VSS database. The client-side app resembles VSS very closely. You can't use all operations, but quite a lot. The Pro version (costs a little bit of coins) allows you to use the SCC API from within VS.NET.
Yes, this functionality will be available in VS 2005, I know.
  • Create a bootable USB key. Details right here at Bootdisk.info.
  • Microsoft is working on an Anti-Spyware program. Check out the beta here.

Thanks Gerwin and Vincent for these.

A collegue of mine pointed me to SourceOffsite! It's on the sourcegear website : www.sourcegear.com

I'm using it right now for Bloggie and a .Text installation I might be tweaking to implement comment spam control of some kind.

Works great! Little slow to start a solution, but when you're up and running it's very smooth and fast, with 100% integrated into VS.NET. Works like a charm, and on top of VSS.
